Di Giannantonio in MotoGP with VR46, why not?!

Fabio is young but has already completed two years in the top class, knows the Desmosedici and has been on the podium – the Italian is well placed to join the Ducati squad

Thinking about it, it’s true - Fabio Di Giannatonio would be an excellent acquisition for the VR46 Racing Team, currently linked to main sponsor Mooney but soon to become Pertamina Enduro. Why is the 25-year old Italian part of these MotoGP market discussions? Because he’s doing well in the top class and promises to do even better.

Marini to Repsol Honda? He would vacate a Ducati Desmosedici

About to ‘abandon’ Honda, Marc Marquez will move to the Gresini Ducati, leaving a RC213 V that is struggling right now but that could be fast in the patient hands of a rider who just wants to focus on developing it and twist the throttle, without drawing comparisons with the past or with others on the grid.

Di Giannantonio could have done that, the rider keen to continue grafting in the toughest championship of them all. But just as it was looking to be a done deal, more names came out, from the unlikely to the more probable.

So if it’s true that Luca Marini and giant HRC are closing to sealing a deal – or announcing one even – the Repsol team will be complete with the arrival of Valentino Rossi’s brother. But this would mean that the nine-time champ would lose a rider, so who would get the Desmosedici in this case?

 Vietti, Aldeguer... Di Giannantonio!

Let’s say it as we see it. Celestino Vietti Ramus has been strong with the new Fantic Racing team but to say he’s ready for MotoGP would be to take him as a fool. In our opinion, the Italian has a shot at the 2024 Moto2 title and could then think about taking the step up.

And Fermin Aldeguer? It looked like everyone wanted him, but in the end it could be that no one takes him. The Spaniard is talented, young – even younger than Pedro Acosta at just 18 – but can you see him on an exquisite, sophisticated and tiring prototype already? Perhaps not right away.

And so to Diggia, who has a great CV. In his second MotoGP season, he’s often inside the top ten and managed to reach the difficult Phillip Island podium. Going into his third year, knowledge of the category, his rivals, the carbon brakes, aerodynamics, electronics and Michelin tyres would be of benefit to him, and to VR46 too, with the bike just happening to be another Ducati Desmosedici.
