SBK Indonesia, Dall'Igna: "I immediately realised that this could be our year”

14 nov 2022

Gigi Dall’Igna is developing a taste for celebrating world titles, not exactly a hardship. The efforts made by Ducati and the Italian engineer have truly paid off in the best possible way in the last few days, with Alvaro Bautista rounding out an incredible season with a world title just a few days after Pecco Bagnaia did the same.

“This is an incredible season for Ducati”, comments Dall’Igna, “or perhaps its best ever, given that we’ve won in both Superbike and MotoGP. As for the latter, we weren’t in a great position mid-season, while things developed in a different way in Superbike, but it was difficult nonetheless.”

Dall'Igna: "Alvaro started well and only got better"

Dall’Igna has only good things to say about the new Superbike world champion, who appeared a changed man with respect to 2019.

“Alvaro has done an incredible job. I immediately understood that he was a different rider to what we saw in 2019, in that as well as being fast he also showed to be well-rounded and intelligent. And that meant that I also quickly realised this could be a winning year – he started the season strong and only got better, and now we can celebrate.”

So it was easy to bury the hatchet of 2019 in the name of a shared goal – the world title. “We are here to win the title and Alvaro was clearly the right choice, regardless of anything else.”
