2023 MotoGP market, Lin Jarvis talks Fabio Quartararo’s renewal

The director of the Iwata team has commented on Yamaha’s position regarding the current champion and next season

Somewhat surprisingly, Fabio Quartararo dominated the Portugal GP, running away with the win at the Portimao circuit, and this victory could prove very important in terms of the market. Nothing is yet defined for 2023, and although he didn’t turn his nose up at Honda’s ‘advances’ a few weeks ago, Yamaha is doing its best to woo him.

Jarvis’ optimism about the renewal

Yamaha principal director Lin Jarvis has confirmed this, telling Sky Sport: “We’re still talking, but I’m optimistic, I think he should stay with us. The goal is clear then, to retain the only rider who is able to fully exploit the potential of the M1, who was crowned champion with them last year and who is currently leading the championship. The strongest rider the Iwata manufacturer has right now. Will it be tough to convince him to stay? The Frenchman has said he’s not fully satisfied with the development, but the image we publish here, taken from Sunday’s press release, tells of a renewed composure.

Jarvis comments on Portimao and Jerez

Quartararo was phenomenal in the Portimao Race, Jarvis commenting: The circuit favours both us and his riding style. Our strength is entering the corners and maintaining our speed through the long turns, even when leant over. In the fourth sector, he was gaining two or three tenths”.

And in conclusion: He ran a perfect race and I can’t wait for Jerez. It’s a great track for him and us. Our championship has begun”. The feeling is excellent ahead of the sixth round of the championship then, both on paper and in terms of mood; might the two parties perhaps come to an agreement after the upcoming weekend?
