Moto3, Jason Dupasquier: the young Swiss rider’s story

Jason Dupasquier is no longer with us. The talented Swiss rider died as a result of injuries sustained during a crash in the final minutes of Moto 3 qualifying at the Italian GP at Mugello. A terrible episode that puts a premature end to a career that was finally taking off.

Bikes were always part of Jason’s life thanks to his father, Philippe Dupasquier, a former MX rider and coach to various riders. The Swiss youngster didn’t have an easy start to his career, debuting in the CEV Moto3 (the Junior World Championship) in 2017, a year in which he also won the North European Cup.

The 2018 injury and his world championship debut

Dupasquier remained in CEV in 2018, but his season was cut short when he injured his femur at Valencia. He returned to the track in 2019, also competing in the Red Bull Rookies Cup, before debuting in the world championship last season.

Another debut that wasn’t exactly simple, the results taking a while to arrive aboard the team PrustelGP KTM and the rider unable to score even one point. But 2021 brought a turnaround, with a move to Spain and a great start to the season, Jason finishing five races inside the points zone and scoring a best of seventh at Jerez. A positive run that was interrupted in the worst possible way at Mugello.

His friendship with Luthi

One key figure in young Dupasquier’s life was Thomas Luthi. Another Swiss rider, the Moto2 rider trains with Jason’s father and shares an important personal sponsor, as well as being a friend and point of reference for number 50. A friendship that saw Thomas deciding to sit out the Mugello race.
