Alex Marquez has today unveiled the official colours of the team LCR Honda that he will ride in 2021, during what is his second season in MotoGP. His debut season was less than convincing early on, but began to look much more positive during the final rounds.

“I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the new livery. The team has a long history in the world chmapionship and it’s a pleasure to wear these colours”, comments Marquez.

“The look is important, but what really counts are the results, and it’s great to be in these colours as we work towards good results”, he adds.

The early days

Alex Marquez answered some questions about his past, starting with his very first riding experiences.

“I got on a bike for the first time when I was 5, but when you’re a kid you’re not thinking about what you’ll do when you grow up. I’d play with bikes, going around with my dad on the weekend and it sort of became a lifestyle for me. Then when I started to compete in the Spanish championship, I realised this was what I wanted to do. Everything got more serious and I became a professional. Sometimes it’s tough, but the good outweighs the bad”.

The best moments? Alex Marquez goes with the days he won his two titles.

"I’ll never forget those two races. I could never have imagined as a kid that one day I would become world champion”.

But there are also less positive moments.

“When you can’t find the right feeling or when you crash, but that’s part of the game. And then when the podiums and wins come, they feel even more special. The difficult moments make you stronger, mentally and physically”, says Marquez.

MotoGP is another world

When asked about the main difference between Moto2 and MotoGP, Alex Marquez points out that “power is the biggest difference. And the electronics, which we don’t have in Moto2, so the main difficulty is understanding how to use them to be faster. And also the tyres, the bike… it’s all different, a different world".

Precise goals

As for his goals, Alex Marquez knows that he’ll need to work hard to achieve them.

“This will be second year in MotoGP and I definitely still have a lot to learn. I’m pleased to be part of this team, as everyone’s very professional and can teach me a lot. I feel ready to work hard right from day one”, he says.

When asked how he has changed in the last twelve months, since arriving in MotoGP as a rookie, Marquez says that a year ago “I was unsure but now it’s all clearer. I have a precise goal. I want to grow as a rider and in terms of my results. We need to try and repeat the results I achieved at the end of last season, scoring some podiums and good points for the championship and becoming more consistent”, concludes Alex Marquez.
