After a glittering 2023, which brought four wins on Sunday and nine in Saturday’s Sprint, Jorge Martin lines up as one of this year's title contenders. Expectations are understandably high, as confirmed by Pramac team manager, Gino Borsoi. The Italian talks to motogp.com about the upcoming season: "We have a new bike, many riders have made changes and so we don’t know what will happen. One thing we are sure of is that we’ll continue to be fast. We know it, and Jorge knows it. But we need to demonstrate this already early in the season".

Borsoi: "We’ll have another chance to fight for the title"

Last year saw Martin make a few mistakes, particularly in the early stages of the championship, although the growth process dictates that a lesson has been learned. Borsoi is certain: "We have learned. In my opinion, we can do better than we did last year. If we can avoid those small mistakes made last year, we’ll have another chance to fight for the world title. I think we can be a little stronger than we were in 2023". Martin’s speciality was the Sprint, while he struggled a little more in Sunday’s long races.

Ducati to bring new material to Sepang

Soon teams will be back on track for the tests in Malaysia, set to play out on 6-8 February, and team Pramac will have new material to work with, courtesy of Ducati. Borsoi confirms: "We’ll be able to test the new aerodynamics at Sepang. We’ll see just how big a difference this makes but I’m quite sure it will work well. When Ducati brings something, it usually results in a step forward. Different is different, but just how different I can’t say right now. Rather than a big difference compared to last year, it’s a big update.”

The riders’ market will soon open

The new season will kick off in a little over a month and, with it, the riders’ market. With the exception of Brad Binder and Luca Marini, all the riders’ contracts are up at the end up 2024 and anything could happen at this point. Martin has already said that he wants to be on a factory team in 2025, something that Borsoi believes he fully deserves: "If he does a good job, I’m sure he can move to the factory team. He’s an incredible rider and will get there sooner or later. Now is not the time to think about too much about contracts though. Now is the time to work and focus so as to achieve the best possible results on track. Results that can pave the way to a bright future.
