MotoGP Italy, Bastianini on the accident: “Zarco stopped in front of me”

Number 23 came into unfortunate contact with the Pramac rider prior to the start of the Italian GP

A Sunday to forget for Enea Bastianini at Mugello. The Avintia rider saw his race compromised already on the sighting lap, as he prepared to take his place on the grid. At that very moment, as he exited Bucine, the Italian rookie could do nothing to avoid colliding with Johann Zarco, who suddenly braked in front of him to warm up his brakes before the start.

Not his day

“A tough Sunday for me, starting with Jason Dupasquier’s death, commented Bastianini after the race. The 2020 Moto2 champion tried to explain what happened: “As I headed out on track, I realised my suit airbag was not charged, so I wasn’t really focusing. And as I reached the grid, Zarco stopped in front of me, coming out of the last corner”.

Contact was inevitable: “I couldn’t avoid him and went right into him. I tried to get back to the garage as quickly as possible to get the second bike, but then I went down on lap one. I hope to make up for this at Barcelona, even if I’m carrying some injuries. A real pity, as I was quick in warm-up and could have run a good race”.
