The 2023 Superbike season is about to get underway and the new regulation – issued today – has settled one of the winter’s most fierce debates, in that a minimum rider-bike weight will not be introduced this year.

No surprise if we consider the rumours regarding its introduction as of 2024 and the limited time that teams would have had to prepare if the change were made now, but we now have confirmation.

All unchanged in SSP, flag to flag is introduced for SSP300

There is also confirmation with regard to Supersport, with the FIM deciding to retain last year’s regulation so as to allow manufacturers a full year in which to prepare for 2024, when a new regulation will be brought in for the next generation bikes in an attempt to balance performance.

Supersport300 meanwhile sees an important update this season, with riders set to face the flag to flag, already present in SBK and SSP, for the first time. A decision that relates to the raising of the minimum rider age, as well as a way to prepare competitors for the higher classes once they complete their apprenticeship in SSP300.
