The two-day session in Andalusia will see almost the entire SBK grid take to the track
The first test of the 2023 Superbike season is fast approaching and it promises to offer a real taste of what we’ll be able to enjoy as of the first Phillip Island round, set to run over the last weekend of February.
Weather permitting, almost the entire 2023 grid will take to the Jerez track, the only exceptions being Axel Bassani and MIE Honda riders Eric Granado and Hafizh Syahrin. All the big names will be there, starting with Alvaro Bautista, who will ride the highly anticipated new 2023 Ducati Panigale V4R for the first time, just one day after the team presentation in Madonna di Campiglio.
First ball for Petrucci
The Spaniard’s main rivals will also be in attendance of course, with Jonathan Rea and Toprak Razgatlioglu having already tested at the Andalusian track in late 2022, albeit it in adverse conditions, along with team-mates Alex Lowes and Andrea Locatelli. The two-day test will also mark Danilo Petrucci’s debut outing aboard the team Barni Panigale. The arrival of the Italian has had a thunderous impact on the category, but we will soon have an idea of his true potential.
Another Italian preparing to test is Lorenzo Baldassarri, who will ride the R1 for team GMT94, while both Dominique Aegerter and Remy Gardner will also return to the track. Several Supersport teams will be out, starting with the Aruba, Evan Bros and Althea squads, all three fielding Italian riders in the shape of Nicolò Bulega, Andrea Mantovani and Federico Caricasulo. The Honda MotoGP test team will also share the track, with Stefan Bradl hard at work ahead of the upcoming season.
