It’s a day of announcements as far as Superbike is concerned, with two important signings for next season. Both Remy Gardner and Garrett Gerloff now know what they will be doing next year, or rather which bikes they will be riding in the 2023 production-derived championship.

Gardner seeks a comeback with GRT

After scoring the Moto2 title last year, Remy Gardner’s rookie season in MotoGP has not gone to plan, the Australian struggling aboard the team Tech3 KTM. And this is why he has opted for a radical change next season, with the aim of relaunching his career in the Superbike paddock, wearing the colours of the GRT Yamaha team.

The Yamaha is not a brand-new bike for Remy, as he already competed for several years in the IDM. Wayne’s son will race with the R1 vacated by Garrett Gerloff, and will strive to regain the competitiveness he’s been missing this year, while the American rider’s future lies with a BMW.

Gerloff moves to the Bonovo Action team

There have been ups and downs for Garrett Gerloff during his three-year stint with team GRT. After battling with the championship’s frontrunners in early 2021, he then slipped back after one crash too many, finding himself fighting for the top ten. As he attempts to find a more consistent performance level, the former MotoAmerica rider is making a change, moving to the BMW satellite team, Bonovo Action, for a fresh challenge.

After several seasons with Yamaha, #31 will need to build confidence with a bike, the M1000RR, that has very different characteristics to the R1. The BMW continues to make strides though, as demonstrated recently by both Scott Redding and Loris Baz. Gerloff and Gardner will be two riders to watch next year then, on a grid that is looking increasingly high-level, also in terms of the satellite teams.
