WorldSBK, surgery planned for Luca Bernardi

In agreement with team Barni, the San Marino rider will compete at Most before undergoing surgery to remove the spinal implant inserted after his accident at Magny-Cours in 2021

Luca Bernardi and team Barni have taken the mutual decision to compete at the upcoming Most SBK round before making a pit stop in preparation for future rounds. Taking advantage of the five-week break between races, the San Marino rider will undergo an important operation.

From Magny-Cours 2021 to Magny-Cours 2022: a fresh start

After Most, the championship will head to Magny-Cours. It was in France that Luca was caught up in a scary accident last year, one that had everyone fearing the worst. Luckily, the young San Marino rider suffered only bad fractures and sustained no life-threatening injuries. And now, so that he can improve his performance aboard the Ducati of Marco Barnabò’s team, the SBK rookie will have his spinal implant comprising plates and screws removed.

Recovery is expected to be in the region of 30 days, with Luca commenting: “The team and I have taken this decision to ensure that I can adapt to the bike even sooner, without any limitation from a physical standpoint. I’m trying to change my riding style and to do so, we’ve decided to remove this variable. Operating now will also allow me to gradually resume certain types of training that I couldn’t do until now due to my physical situation.”
