SBK, Superpole changes: two Pirelli qualifiers for everybody

After the Estoril weekend, the fifteen-minute format will be retained but riders will have two qualifying tyres rather than one with which to complete their flying lap

The Portuguese SBK weekend made an impact and has led to an immediate Superpole regulation change. The qualifying session will continue to last fifteen minutes, during which time each rider must set the best possible lap time in order to establish the starting grid.

The current format – already much criticised – will not be revolutionised but simply adapted. Situations like that seen at Estoril need to be avoided in order to prevent any ongoing controversy. And this is why Pirelli has decided to supply each rider with two qualifying tyres.

At the Marco Simoncelli circuit, riders will therefore receive two rear tyres with which to attempt their flying lap. In this way, anyway who gets caught out by a yellow flag or similar will have another chance. Those on-the-limit laps are always spectacular and the Milanese manufacturer is redefining the records from track to track.
