Despite having only begun a few days ago, the 2023 Dakar is already proving to be one of the toughest of all time, particularly of those editions held in Saudi Arabia. Even the big names have had more difficulties than expected and, after the retirement of current champion Sam Sunderland, stage three saw the exit of Ricky Brabec, the 2020 winner, following a serious crash at km 274.

Sigh of relief: no fractures for Brabec

The American rider was transported by helicopter to hospital in Ha'Il, where he will remain under observation until at least this evening, but fortunately tests have ruled out any fractures or serious injuries. Brabec will nevertheless be very disappointed to have had to end his race ahead of time, and will now have to settle for cheering on his factory Honda team-mates (Van Beveren, Quintanilla and Cornejo).

Ruben Faria, HRC Team Manager, is nevertheless satisfied with Ricky’s work: “The entire Honda team is proud of him and the efforts he made during the first days of the race. He’s a great rider, if not one of the best, and he’s also a fantastic person, so I can only wish him a speedy recovery”.
