The FHO Racing BMW rider triumphed in the Open Race, scoring a first National win for Faye Ho’s team. Double victory for “usual suspects” Sweeney and Browne
During a July packed with road racing events, the riders are flat out. After the spectacular Southern 100 on the Isle of Man, last weekend brought the Faugheen 50, a National race that runs along very fast and narrow Irish roads and in which the frontrunners were sure to put on a show.
One of the most highly anticipated appearances was that of local hero Brian McCormack, who was back on track after (not particularly lucky) performances at the North West 200 and the Tourist Trophy. Riding the BMW M1000RR for the FHO Racing/Roadhouse Macau team, the Irish rider immediately stood out, battling with specialists Sweeney and Browne and winning the Open Race, thus securing a very first National Road Race win for the team headed up by Faye Ho.
The aforementioned Michael Sweeney and Mike Browne also played a starring role over the weekend, going head-to-head in both Supersport, where the Burrows Engineering rider got the better of “Micko” by just 0.089 of a second, and in the Grand Final, where their positions were reversed.
Both Browne and Sweeney obtained another win, dominating in Moto3 and the Supertwins as they previously did at Walderstown and the Skerries 100, proving to be real talents along the tricky narrow Irish streets. A result that will see them arrive at Armoy (taking place on 29-30 July) as favourites for the win.
