MotoGP Sepang test, Marquez: "Less impressive than Valencia? I’ll tell you why”

Marc explains: "In Spain the times came naturally, here they didn’t. If you don’t have the right confidence on the bike, your body is rigid, I need to work. I’m so tired, but we made progress”

Marc Marquez was arguably the one to watch in Malaysia, but his lap times over the three days, though positive, perhaps fell a little short. The Spanish nevertheless finished the test just over half a second from the front, which shows he is on the right path.

“I’m so tired”, Marc tells Sky, “Particularly because we didn’t have this afternoon’s Sprint simulation scheduled, but I wanted to do ita s it was the best way to understand the bike. The important thing is that we’ve made progress day by day.”

Marc and the importance of body position

“I struggled more than I did at Valencia”, continues the Spaniard, “which I think is normal. At Valencia the times came straight away, while here they didn't, but mainly because I found myself automatically riding with the style I used on the Honda. You need to ride very differently on the Ducati, especially for the time attack. The first day was lost, I wasn’t riding well, then I already improved yesterday and today I got closer over the flying lap too.”

Marc goes on to explain how his performance at Valencia was conditioned by the particular feeling the Spaniard has with the Riccardo Tormo track.

When you don’t have the right confidence on the bike, your body is more rigid and that’s what’s happening right now. This is why I did a Sprint simulation, to understand how to play with my body more. The times came without doing that at Valencia, but it’s important and so I have to work on it”.
