There’s no denying that Marc Marquez is grabbing the attention of fans and media heading into the 2024 season. Largely due to his clamorous departure from Honda, which has led him to marry the Gresini-Ducati cause for the season that will get underway in Qatar on 8-10 March. But what will the future bring for the eight-time champion? Will he climb the Ducati ranks or make a sensational return to the Honda camp? In an interview with the MotoGP website, Livio Suppo is not ruling anything out.

Marquez to Honda? Livio Suppo’s prediction

According to the former Suzuki team manager, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that we’ll see Marquez back in the Repsol garage as of 2025. We definitely shouldn’t rule out a return to HRC for Marc”, begins Suppo, “he and the team parted on good terms, with no aftermath, because they tried to find the best solution for both parties”. The split between #93 and the Japanese manufacturer was painful but the regulatory concessions could help Honda to rebuild its level of competitiveness and perhaps even encourage Marc to return to the fold: “Marquez needs to find his strength again now”, continues the Italian manager, "and on the other hand Honda has less pressure to develop the bike without him. In the end, his entire team bar one has stayed put at Honda and we know how strong his relationship is with them.”

Suppo: Marquez and Honda, a future to be written

The Spaniard has signed a one-year contract with Gresini, which means he will soon be free to look around again, and Suppo thinks there is even a chance he might become Pecco Bagnaia’s team-mate in 2025. “Marc really wanted a short contract and he found it”, continues the former HRC team principal. “He wanted this mainly so that he can understand if he’s still fast enough to fight for the title. Once he knows this, he’ll be free to see how Honda is doing and what KTM and Ducati are up to, and then he’ll make a decision. I don’t think Pecco has any say in who his team-mate is. If there’s no issue with personality, a rider cannot complain about a prospective new team-mate just because they think he might be quicker. Every manufacturer has to try and build the strongest possible team.
