Marc Marquez: his premonition as to Pedro Acosta’s future in MotoGP

From 2024, MotoGP will have another phenomenon on the grid. We’re talking about Pedro Acosta, the newly crowned Moto2 champion who has impressed everyone during his three seasons in the world championship, scoring no less than two world titles in the process.

An enviable track record for Pedro then as he prepares to move up to the reigning class, where he’ll meet another Spaniard who’s made motorcycling history, a certain Marc Marquez, eight-time world championship winner and one of the first to congratulate Acosta after his win at Sepang.

“I met Pedro Acosta in the paddock and congratulated him on his Moto2 title”, #93 told DAZN Spain, before making a prediction about the future of the ‘boy wonder’. “In my opinion, Pedro’s one of those riders who will mark an era in MotoGP. There was the Doohan era and then those of Rossi, Lorenzo, Stoner. Then there was me, followed by Quartararo, Bagnaia, though no one has won so many in a row, for now”.

But Marc doesn’t want to compare Acosta to legends of the past: "I won’t label him because it’s something I’ve always hated. Every rider has his time, his years, his moment. I’ve often said that no one is eternal” continues the future Ducati rider, “but I think Pedro Acosta will be one of those who will mark his era and have his own golden age. He’ll be MotoGP champion one day”.

An important investiture, but one that does not faze the 19-year-old. “I’m the new Pedro Acosta, not the new Marc Marquez”, stated the two-time champion after the Malaysian GP, showing that he is not short on personality or boldness.
