It’s no secret that Honda is yet to decide as to Joan Mir’s future team-mate, just as it’s also true that various names have been mentioned, some of which only very recently, like Luca Marini since the Thai round.

MotoGP is on a short break before resuming for the final three rounds of the season and the latest name to be mentioned in relation to the post-Marquez period in the HRC camp is a talented young Spaniard from Moto2.

A HRC Honda for Aldeguer?

It’s clear that Honda wants to make the right decision with regard to Joan Mir’s team-mate, and that the chosen rider will have huge responsibility on their shoulders, tasked with cancelling the memory of Marc Marquez. According to Ricard Jovè at DAZN Spain, the name that Puig has identified is 18-year-old Spanish talent Fermin Aldeguer, currently competing for Luca Boscoscuro’s team and a recent race winner in Thailand ahead of Pedro Acosta.

Jovè maintains that HRC has already presented him with an offer, a two-year contract with an option for 2026 should the results over the first two years prove positive and the team satisfied. Jovè is also aware that Aldeguer would like to stay in Moto2 for now, given his young age, though HRC is one of those trains that may only pass once.

Yamaha is also courting #54

HRC are not the only ones to have given the Spaniard an offer, in that apparently Yamaha also has #54 in its sights. The 18-year-old has already collected two wins and four podiums with the Boscoscuro team this season and lies ahead of Lopez in the general standings.

While Honda wants him in MotoGP right away, the Yamaha offer is more long-term, with a move to the Moto2 Mastercamp team coming before a promotion to the Top Class.

Who will win the battle to hire the Spaniard?
