“Another 5 races, then it’s done”. Marc Marquez wasn’t hiding his frustration at the end of the Indonesian GP, after a weekend in which he wasn’t able to get his Honda over the finish line in either the Sprint or the main race.

Considering the current disappointments, the eight-time champion cannot wait for 2024, when he’ll share the Gresini Racing garage with brother Alex.

Marc Marquez: Alex drops a bomb

As announced just prior to the Mandalika weekend, #93 has only signed with the Italian team for one year. Brother Alex Marquez was interviewed by TNT Sports just after the Indonesian race and reveals why Marc has gone with a one-year contract.

“We’ll see if Marc extends the agreement beyond 2024. It looks like he has a contract for all next season so he can understand if he’s still having fun on the bike” comments #73, before dropping the bomb. “He’s very smart - he told me: ‘If I don’t have fun, I’ll retire’. It’s something he’s considering.”

Alex Marquez explains Marc’s reasoning

“Marc wants to see if he still enjoys it”, continues Alex. “If he can be quick despite the injuries. I have no doubts, but he does, and he’s right, because they’re the same doubts I had when I was at Honda. I’m sure that he’ll have fun already during the Valencia tests and that these ideas will quickly evaporate.”

That’s exactly what Marc is hoping too, as he looks to Gresini for the happiness he has missed out on in recent years due to various crashes and injuries.
