Marc Marquez has sent a member of his team a touching message, sharing it on social media with his face partially covered by the text, but with his red, tearful eyes clearly visible. Splitting from Honda is far from painless for the Spaniard, who arrived at HRC when he was barely of age and leaves, eleven seasons later, as a mature 30-year old.

A difficult decision but necessary in order to win

The first public message from Marc Marquez after announcing his separation from the team with which he amassed six MotoGP world titles, 59 wins and 101 podiums clarifies the difficulties the Spaniard has had in coming to this decision. Leaving HRC is a decision he has made with his head, not his heart, as he sets out to be the best rider in the world again.

“I want to share this message that I sent to a member of the team:

I don’t know where to start, I don’t know if I’m doing the right thing or not, I don’t know what will happen in the future, I don’t know if this will all work out, but what I do know is everything we’ve achieved together.

This has been the toughest decision of my life, guided by my head and my courage, NOT by my heart. You will always be the team I hold in my heart, FOREVER, the team that has supported me and will support me. But one thing is clear – I want to try and get back to being the best rider in the world and to do so, I need to enjoy the game.

I used a theory that the mountaineer outlined in the book you gave me to read. If I can climb Everest in 3 days, why climb it in 5? Logically it’s riskier to climb it in 3 days, you are more exposed and perhaps it’s not possible, but if I don’t try, I’ll never know.

You’ve always told me, and I’ve applied it: Follow your instincts, no one beats you in terms of character and balls.
