The Spaniard will leave the Japanese manufacturer after eleven years of collaboration and six world titles in the reigning class
The highly anticipated announcement that failed to materialise in Japan has instead arrived today: Marc Marquez will no longer be a Honda rider in 2024, despite the fact his contract with the Japanese manufacturer is not set to officially expire until the end of 2024.
The note published by HRC reads: “Both parties have mutually agreed to end their collaboration upon completion of the 2023 MotoGP World Championship season. Both parties agreed it was in their best interests to each pursue other avenues in the future to best achieve their respective goals and targets.”
An historic day for motorcycling then, one that marks the end of an eleven-year relationship – more than a decade in which the rider amassed significant results:
59 wins (the most successful ever Repsol Honda rider)
5 Triple Crowns (rider-team-constructor)
101 podiums
64 pole positions
6 world titles
Together with Honda, Marquez also set two important records, as the youngest ever winner of a MotoGP race and the youngest world champion, in 2013, as well as scoring four consecutive titles between 2016 and 2019.
