This year brings schedule changes to the MotoGP weekend, across all three days and all three categories. We already know about the introduction of the Sprint Race on Saturday and this will also impact on Friday’s program, with the MotoGP riders still heading out for two practice sessions, but of revised length. The first session will get underway at 10.45am and will last 45 minutes, while the second has been extended to 60 minutes and will begin at 3pm. The combined times in these sessions will determine entry to Q1 and Q2.

A new-look Saturday

Moto2 will have two 40-minute practices and Moto3 two 35-minute practices. The two minor classes will also have a third session on Saturday morning, which will also count in establishing who passes straight to Q2, and who has to take part in Q1. MotoGP will have one 30-minute practice on Saturday before Q1 kicks off at 10.50am and Q2 at 11.15am. Riders will then take to the stage for a new show, with live interviews in front of the fans. The Sprint Race will commence at 3pm, with a shortened start procedure (15 minutes) while the podium will be positioned so that the public are more involved.

The two minor classes will have a 30-minute session in the morning, before taking part in qualifying, Moto3 from 12.50pm and Moto2 from 13.45pm.

Sunday’s grand finale

As we already know, the warm-up sessions for Moto3 and Moto2 have been cancelled, while MotoGP will have just 10 minutes at 9.45am. Riders in the top class will then take part in a parade, at 10am, passing in front of the grandstands and making a lap of the track prior to the Hero Walk dedicated to the fans. The Moto3 race will start at 11am, Moto2 at 12.15pm and MotoGP at 2pm. The reigning class will race last, giving the fans chance to watch the podium ceremony and be a part of the celebrations.
