Acosta and Foggia rivals once more – who will come out on top?

After fighting for the 2021 Moto3 title, Pedro and Dennis then parted ways but next year they will share the track once more. Who will be quicker, the KTM or Italtrans rider?

Pedro Acosta and Dennis Foggia, otherwise known as the 2021 Moto3 title contenders. The crown ultimately went to the Spaniard, who scored 259 points compared to the 216 collected by the Italian. The two battled it out on equal terms until the penultimate round of the season at Portimão, when the KTM rookie made the race his own, while the Honda Leopard rider was more than a little "disturbed" by South African Darryn Binder. The fight concluded in Portugal and will now resume in the same place.

Acosta vs Foggia: experience versus youth

Set to turn 22 in the new year, we might think of Dennis as the most experienced of the two. Not exactly, because although he’s not yet 19, it is the Mazaron native who has the upper hand, not in terms of age or seasons completed, but in terms of miles clocked up aboard a Moto2 bike.

This is the crux of the matter, with Acosta have already completed a season in the middle class, despite injury forcing him to sit out of a couple of rounds. The Spaniard did very well too, finishing fifth overall and scoring three race wins and two podiums.

Foggia, on the other hand, remained in Moto3, where he also did well, taking the bronze medal overall thanks to four wins and four second-place finishes. Dennis has now come to an agreement with team Italtrans that will see him move up a category.

Moto2 2023: Acosta aims for the title, Foggia the expert rookie

Acosta would soon be rumbled if he were to hide behind his quick wrist and deny the fact that he wants to (also) win the Moto2 title. There’s no beating around the bush – the Spaniard wants to lift as many trophies as possible, the 2023 crown included perhaps.

Foggia will be riding the Triumph-powered Kalex. He will need to acclimatize of course, in terms of getting to grips with the bike, the tyres, the team and – why not – his rivals too. One of these is Pedro, Rookie of the Year 2022… Can Foggia perhaps match this and secure the same (sub)title come the end of the 2023 season?

And how long will they spend in the same category anyway? It’s well known that Acosta is being courted by several MotoGP teams, the reigning class the ultimate goal for any rider. If this comes together in 2014, what will the Italian do? Will he follow him, sword drawn, or wait another year or two?
