MotoGP, Alex Marquez looks to the future: “I’ll have no excuses with the Ducati”

After three seasons with Honda, the Spaniard is ready to change manufacturers and admits: “I’m doing it to prove to myself that I’m the same rider I was in 2020”

The Honda chapter of Alex Marquez’s career is drawing to an end. Just three more races and he will end his collaboration with Honda, one that has lasted three years and that has not brought the best results. Marc’s brother has scored two MotoGP podiums to date, both achieved while racing for the Repsol team in 2020. This was followed by two rather challenging seasons with team LCR and now it’s time for a change of air.

Alex Marquez attracted by the Desmosedici GP

As of next year, he will be in team Gresini colours, taking the place of Enea Bastianini. Interviewed by DAZN Spain, Alex talks about the Desmosedici GP: “A winning bike, that is up front with many different riders who have different styles. It has everyone a rider needs basically. And so I’m putting pressure on myself. There’ll be no excuses”. He will finally get to ride it in November and admits: “We’ll see if I’m good enough or not. You need to be honest with yourself”.

With Gresini to evaluate his potential

This will be a real change for the rider, but one he definitely needed: I had to seize this opportunity to prove to myself that I’m the same rider I was in 2020 and in 2019, when I won in Moto2. I think I have the potential; this is why I’ve been given this opportunity”. But first come races in Australia, Malaysia and Valencia aboard the RC213V, a bike he knows very well but that makes things complicated. In his own words: “The bike is very important, if it doesn’t comply, you’re not going anywhere. If it doesn’t accelerate when you open the gas, there’s nothing you can do”.
