IronMan for a day: Maverick Viñales recharged the batteries ahead of the Misano GP in an unusual way, taking part in the “70.3” triathlon event in Zell am See (swimming, cycling and running), which took place last weekend in Austria.

70 miles of swimming, cycling and running in 5 hours

“Top Gun” was able to show off his physical form during an event that essentially runs over half the distance of a traditional IronMan. Maverick swam 1.9 kilometres, before riding 90 km by bike and then running a distance of 21 km (for a total of 70.3 miles, hence the name of the event). He reached the finish line in a little over five hours, demonstrating the high level of athletic preparation that today’s MotoGP requires, all of the riders true all-round athletes.

Viñales finished 49th in his category and placed 384th overall. Now, though, attention turns to the San Marino and Riviera di Rimini GP, where he will aim to get back on the podium with his Aprilia RS-GP, having already done so at Assen and Silverstone.
