MotoGP, injured Mir to miss Misano. Aragon in doubt

Doctors have told the Majorcan to rest for two weeks following injury sustained in Austria, meaning he will not take part in the fourteenth round

The injury that Joan Mir sustained in Austria as a result of a terrifying crash on lap one of the race will keep him away from the track for two weeks. This is the recommendation of doctor Juan Garcías at the Juaneda Miramar hospital in Palma de Mallorca. The Suzuki rider has undergone a CT scan and an additional MRI at that hospital, tests that have highlighted damage to the ligaments and bones to the right side of his right ankle.

Forced to rest, with more medical checks to follow

The doctor has therefore recommended that Mir rest up, meaning he will miss the Misano GP, set to take place on Sunday 4 September. After fifteen days the Majorcan will undergo further tests to determine the course of his treatment and to see whether he might be able to compete in the Aragon GP at Motorland. Doctor Garcías states: “The patient had an injury to the talocalcaneal ligaments with a small bone avulsion. A stable tibiofibular joint, but with bone contusion on the head of the talus. In this case, the tibiofibular joint was stable and there was no total instability in the navicular bone. Conclusion: talus-calcaneal-navicular ligamentous injuries with instability grade I – II.”

Thanks to Dainese and AGV

Bad news for Mir then, who must now focus on his recovery: “Unfortunately I will miss the Misano race, but I am confident I can return in Aragon. I want to thank Dainese and AGV for protecting me and avoiding a more serious injury after the hard crash I had at the Red Bull Ring”. The 2022 season is proving to be an uphill climb for him, but he’s not losing heart: “It's been a tough season, but I'm convinced that we'll come back stronger to bring more good moments to my team and to all of you who support me".

In the coming days, Suzuki and Dorna will decide on the best solution for Misano.
