MotoGP, Puig: “We thought the 2022 was competitive, we were wrong”

The team HRC boss talks about the current season and Marc Marquez’s condition

Since the injury of eight-time champion, Marc Marquez, Honda is no longer the same. Many factors may have contributed to this drop in performance, but the fact is that the team is struggling to finish top ten.

The 2022 bike

As teams prepare to return to the track at Silverstone, team manager Alberto Puig sums up this first half of the season, also touching on the performance of the bike: “We thought the 2022 bike was very competitive but in the end we were wrong. Things went from bad to worse after the Indonesia GP”, continues Puig during an interview with AS, “And this is probably a result of having not found what we had planned. The most important thing is to improve our bike and get back to what is a more normal level for Honda”.

Marc Marquez’s condition

It’s been a long while since Marc underwent a fourth surgery on his humerus, owing to the injury of two years ago, which led to this lengthy absence. After this latest operation, it seems that the bone is “knitting” correctly, allowing Marc to ride.

As for the HRC rider’s condition, Alberto comments: "We’re all obviously worried. I don’t have a crystal ball. We hope it all goes well this time. It all seems OK and he’s feeling good. The doctors are satisfied. Now we have to wait for him to heal. For now, the priority is a full recovery, perhaps he’ll be able to compete in a few races over the summer".
