While the world championship enjoys one of its longest summer breaks in recent years, with another two weeks to go before the next round, set to take place on 5-7 August at Silverstone, many riders are taking advantage, taking time to relax and recharge before the second part of the season.

And these include Aron Canet, a star of the Moto2 class who currently lies fourth with the team Pons Kalex. The Spaniard was interviewed by DAZN Spagna recently, and talked about some of the dark moments of his past, the rider having come very close to retiring.

Canet: “I had bulimia, I was really ill”

“A few years ago, I was really ill. I’m in shape now and at peace with myself but before I would weigh myself fifteen, twenty times a day and was bulimic”, admits the 23 year-old. “I couldn’t sleep, I was weak , pale and often dizzy. I remember that I even argued with my team at the time, for not eating before going out on track.”

“I thought about retiring”

The rider, who comes from Corbera de Alcira, reveals that he came very close to retiring: “In 2020, I struggled more than expected and still wasn’t well, to the point that I thought about retiring. My assistant said that if I didn’t feel it then I should stop and leave. Luckily, I’m now good mentally and working hard with my trainer (Miguel Maeso). Training helps me to keep my mind clear, I have fun and I relax, I’ve found my calm and can be fast on track again”.
