KTM test rider and Lamborghini Super Trofeo driver, the Spaniard is enjoying his new adventure, but it’s not so easy with two extra wheels

Many motorcycle riders are keen to take on the challenge that four wheels present, with three former MotoGP riders competing behind the wheel. Three personalities who were direct rivals in their motorcycle days no less, or rather Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa. The latter is showing off his skills at the wheel of an Italian gem, in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo, and as he reveals to Spanish website Marca.com, he’s really enjoying this new chapter in his life.

The difficulties of going from handlebars to steering wheel

Going from two to four wheels, Pedrosa is happy with his new adventure that he describes as “interesting! It’s great fun, there’s a good atmosphere and the level of competition is pretty high. We’re divided into three categories but the professionals and also many amateurs are quite fast”. The car world is totally different in many ways, the Spaniard adding: “I’m still learning and trying to apply the driving techniques, because the habits you have after so many years riding bikes are obvious. Especially from a technical standpoint:The way you use the accelerator, the brake and the combination of these are different. Also the trajectories, but after you’ve done 20 laps you’ve learned them. It’s difficult to change the way you think about accelerating and braking”.

A four-wheel battle with Lorenzo and Rossi

The Doctor and the Majorcan have also chosen to put themselves to the test on four wheels but meeting up on track isn’t feasible: “It would be great, but Rossi is racing in a higher category, against drivers who are well prepared and experienced, having driven since they were little. Even if you’re very talented and can adapt, your brain is very used to doing it in a different way”.

His passion has always been for bikes, but he’s long been intrigued by the idea of car racing too: “It’s always interested me. It’s a safer vehicle and you’re not as exposed as you are on a bike. I wanted to experience that adrenaline rush without being so exposed at every turn. This opportunity presented itself and I’m having fun”.

Also because he’s unlikely to have another opportunity to race in MotoGP, as he did last year in Austria: I could only do that if there’s material to test as, in that case, the factory riders wouldn’t be able to use it due to the regulation so it would make sense”. So for now, it remains quite a remote possibility...
