The news that Suzuki will withdraw at the end of the year sent shockwaves through the MotoGP paddock yesterday, all while riders Mir and Rins were taking part in the post-race test session at Jerez.

An exit that has left many perplexed, inside and outside the paddock, former Suzuki legends included. One such man is John Hopkins, now involved as a coach for American Racing but a former Hamamatsu rider from 2003 to 2007. The American told us what he thinks about the news, which has taken everyone by surprise.

Hopkins: “It’s a real shame to lose Suzuki”

John, Suzuki may withdraw. What do you think?

“I haven’t seen any official confirmation yet, but I’ve heard that it’s 100% certain they’ll go at the end of the year. If it’s true, it’s very sad. I’m sorry because Suzuki is one of the most competitive bikes on the grid and it’s a shame to lose them. They have a great team with a great bike and the Suzuki name has always been a favourite of mine. I think there might be an opportunity for a satellite team to come in and field Suzuki bikes next year, maybe it will even be American Racing”.
