The 2022 MotoE World Cup season starts with an uphill climb for Bradley Smith. The English rider will not be able to take part in the opening round of the full-electric championship taking place this weekend at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit, having not been passed fit by the doctors.

The former MotoGP rider is still recovering after the serious accident he suffered at the Le Mans 24 Hours, where he was hit by another rider and fractured a vertebra. He will be replaced on the Energica Ego Corsa of team WithU GRT RNF MotoE by German Lukas Tulovic, who joins Niccolò Canepa.

Smith: “I thought I’d be able to race, but I respect the doctors’ decision”

“Unfortunately, I have bad news, as I’ve been declared unfit by the doctors for the Jerez weekend”, stated a disappointed Bradley. “I’m sorry because I’ve worked hard in the last few days to be ready for this first MotoE round and I honestly thought I’d be able to race. But I respect the decision taken of course, so now I’ll continue to train to be back on track for the next round, which will be back at Le Mans”.
