Chicho Lorenzo: “Marc Marquez? Luca Cadalora was right”

The father of the five-time champion comments on the Spaniard’s current situation, the rider now forced to miss the Argentinian GP

It’s now confirmed that Marc Marquez will miss the third round of the season in Argentina (here, his doctor’s comments), after a terrifying crash in Indonesia that has left him dealing once again with diplopia. The Spaniard is therefore forced to rest up again, causing many to comment on the current situation, not least Chicho Lorenzo, the father of former rider Jorge.

Lorenzo: "He’s spent the last two years on the sofa..."

On his YouTube channel, Motogepeando, Lorenzo admits: “I was very interested to find out whether we’d see a new Marc, something he himself alluded to on more than one occasion. But that wasn’t the case in the end”. According to Lorenzo, the Honda rider has not learned his lesson: “Look how many times he’s crashed over two rounds, not to mention that fact that he didn’t even race in one of them. He’s had time to reflect, he’s spent two years on the sofa watching the racing. But despite all those hours, there’s been no change…”

Lorenzo agrees with Cadalora’s theory

Marquez returned to the track in February, having not ridden his Honda since last October and Lorenzo senior asks: “Does he have a new strategy? It doesn’t look like it. It looks the same – head out on track and attack. In 2021, Luca Cadalora said that all sportspersons have a period in which everything is working well and luck is on their side, just look at all those times Marc crashed and was never hurt. And then suddenly things change and events begin to get in the way of the results. I still think Luca is right, the great champion and former rider that he is”.

And now, with his injury, Marquez will lose even more precious time in terms of adapting to, and developing the bike: In the meantime, his rivals carry on working, improving their performance, but he can’t, and it is he who needs it most because he’s having more trouble understanding his new bike than other riders”. Lastly, Lorenzo senior remarks: “Now I ask myself - is Marc in decline?” No one can answer this for now, but we may have a clearer idea in the coming months.
