MotoGP, Marc Marquez: “My diplopia is back, it’s like déjà vu”

The Honda rider can’t seem to catch a break and must now rest up and see how the situation evolves. Who knows when he'll be back on track?

From the crash during warm-up in Indonesia, to a flight home to Spain, an extremely unlucky weekend at Mandalika comes to an end for Marc Marquez. After suffering a violent highside on Sunday morning, the Honda rider was declared ‘unfit’ and decided to return home immediately. And this morning he has received confirmation that he is once again suffering from diplopia.

No light at the end of the tunnel

It appears there is no end to Marc Marquez’s troubles as the setbacks continue for the eight-time champion. And a serious crash is once again at the root of it all. From breaking his humerus to the diplopia issues of late 2021. Marc was able to avoid another surgery and, miraculously, his eyesight returned to normal. His 2022 season got underway, but after Sunday’s crash during warm-up and the blow to his head (he lost consciousness for a few seconds), the double vision has returned.

Marquez: “I had vision problems during the flight home”

The rider has provided an update on his social media pages: “It seems that I am experiencing déjà vu - he writes - During the trip back to Spain, I began to have discomfort with my vision, and we decided to visit Dr. Sánchez Dalmau, who confirmed that I have a new episode of diplopia. Fortunately, it is less severe than the injury I had at the end of last year. But now it's time to rest and wait to see how the injury evolves. As always, thank you very much to everyone for your support."

News he could have well done without of course, as the eight-time champion had returned to the track this year with the aim of fighting for the title. All he can now do is rest up and wave goodbye, at least for now, to his dreams of glory. Time he can also spend reflecting as to his future.
