MotoGP, Dovizioso: “I could have run a good race, Quartararo proved that”

“Unfortunately when I turned the bike on, the dash didn’t work and I couldn’t activate launch control” commented the Italian post-race at Mandalika

Of the four Yamahas on track at Mandalika, only one failed to finish the race, that of Andrea Dovizioso. The Italian was stopped by an electronic problem just six laps in, as he was trying to make up ground after a less than shining start.

“I’m disappointed - says Dovizioso - when I turned the bike on, the dashboard didn’t work, I couldn’t see anything, I couldn’t activate launch control, see the gears or change mapping. I was just riding and that was it, but I was making up some positions”.

The Italian explains the other problems that emerged during the race. “I had grip problems on the left side of the tyre already from lap one - continues the Yamaha WithU rider - and I couldn’t use my right hand (throttle) in a natural way. A pity because I had good bike control. In a normal race, had I started further forward, I could have run a good race; Quartararo proved that”.

Dovizioso: “Too many problems”

The Italian continues his analysis. I had too many problems, I almost ‘stalled’ the bike because I didn’t have launch control or grip on the left. It was hard to ride in a normal way. I felt OK with the bike and was in an acceptable position.”

Dovi finishes by touching on the weather and track conditions: “Being further back limited me because it was very difficult to see but the track was in good condition”.
