MotoGP, Marc Marquez: “I will see how my arm is”

While his diplopia problem appears resolved, it’s been a long time since Marquez has ridden a MotoGP bike with his injured arm. The Spaniard is at Sepang to evaluate his condition

Hearing that Marc Marquez will be able to take part in the IRTA tests at Sepang this weekend was the best news the Honda team could hope to receive as 2022 gets underway. The HRC rider has recovered from diplopia or is at least fit enough to get back on a MotoGP bike. But this latest injury was not easy for the Spaniard to deal with, something he talks about in the Repsol Honda blog, before outlining his goals for the pre-season tests.

Marquez: “It's been a difficult winter”

If I had to choose one word to define my winter, I wouldn't know which one to choose. The truth is, things have been a bit up and down, at times chaotic, but perhaps it can be summed up as another difficult winter. At times I didn’t know when I would be able to compete again or if I would be able to, as I endured diplopia again. Dr. Sánchez Dalmau, my most trusted doctor who already helped me back in 2012, told me to take a conservative treatment that required time and patience. And so I did”.

“I was sore when I resumed my training”

Marc then talks about those close to him and also an unexpected trip: “I’m very grateful to the doctors and the physios who’ve treated me and to everyone who’s helped me, specially my team and family who have helped me in these difficult times. Over the winter, I did a four-day trip to Granada with some friends, a spur of the moment decision that helped me disconnect from everything. We woke up one day and thought "let's go". I was starting to climb the walls a bit at home, but my friends knew what to do".

Lastly, his return to training which also led to the decision to take part in the Sepang tests: After Dr. Sánchez gave me the green light to get back on a bike, which was mid-January, I started to pick up my training a little more, as I needed to catch up on the hours of riding I’d missed. At first I was sore, but I’ve been feeling better. The Sepang test will help me understand better how I am physically and compare how my arm has progressed since last year. It will also be useful to see the work that HRC has put in with the new bike and see where we are. I’m really looking forward to get back on my MotoGP bike; I get goosebumps just thinking about that moment”.
