Yamaha has made an important announcement on day one of the MotoGP tests at Sepang. Cal Crutchlow, Yamaha test rider since last year, will continue on in the same role in both 2022 and 2023.

The Yamaha announcement

"Test rider confirmed. Cal Crutchlow will continue his work as Yamaha Factory Racing Official Test Rider in 2022 and 2023", announces Yamaha. Confirmation that the Iwata-based manufacturer trusts in the testing abilities of the British rider, who is a key component, along with the test team headed up by Silvano Galbusera, in terms of the development of the M1, which will be ridden by this season’s factory riders Quartararo, Morbidelli and Dovizioso.

Crutchlow’s words

The factory Yamaha team’s social channels also posted the British riders words with regard to the announcement: "I'm happy to be spending the next two years with the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP team as their Official Test Rider again. I think it makes sense for all parties involved to continue our good working relationship from last year. Being a part of the winning team and manufacturer last season was something very special and it was nice to see it from a different perspective. Being able to help others – to help the team and the manufacturer to win the rider’s title – was amazing. I will again put 100% into it and can’t wait to work over the next two years."
