"I’ve learned a lot in recent years. I need to be fast now” comments the South African ahead of his third season in the reigning class, which will also include his younger brother for the first time. Here’s what the KTM rider has to say

KTM has now unveiled its bikes ahead of the imminent 2022 MotoGP season. But the factory team’s line-up remains unchanged, the squad once again fielding Miguel Oliveira and Brad Binder. The South African heads into his third season with the same team and is ready to fight at the sharp end after a 2021 season of highs and lows.

“Over the last two MotoGP seasons, I’ve really learned a lot, because there’s always something new to focus on”, comments Brad, aware of his growth. “In the first year, I’d often go too far and make mistakes, while in 2021 the main difficulty was having to settle for bringing home the best possible result we could with what we had available. It wasn’t easy, but it allowed me to enjoy the races more”.

Binder: “I need to improve in qualifying. Guidotti will be important for the team”

During this third season, the South African will be aiming high and trying to improve on his weak points: I need to really push to be more competitive in qualifying and start further forward in the races, also improving in terms of tyre management. I will also try to change my riding style a little, so that I cover slightly less distance, because I always lose time with trajectories that are slightly different to the best ones”.

KTM itself will also be striving to up its competitiveness, and can also count on the arrival of Guidotti: “The RC16 is already a good bike, but I think we need more traction out of the corners and greater stability in braking, so we’re going to concentrate on these areas. I’m sure that Guidotti’s arrival can help spur the entire team on and help us to go far”.

“My brother? It’ll take time, but it will be a great season for him”

Brad also touches on his brother Darryn and Petrucci’s amazing performance in the Dakar: Darryn has trained a lot with a Superbike so that he’s ready, but it will still be an incredible challenge for him to move up from Moto3 to MotoGP. He’ll need time to adapt, but he has what he needs to be able to fight with the others. Petrucci in the Dakar? He was incredible, I don’t think even he expected that. It was a great move, on both his part and that of KTM”.
