The 2020 world champion shuts down those who have questioned his performance this season

Suzuki has had a complicated season, with team boss Shinichi Sahara admitting during a recent interview that Davide Brivio’s absence has left a hole that is hard to fill inside the Japanese garage.

But 2020 MotoGP world champion Joan Mir, third in 2021 behind Fabio Quartararo and Francesco Bagnaia, believes he has no reason to complain about the year’s results, in fact he is convinced that he got the very best out of his GSX-RR.

Mir: "I extracted the bike’s maximum potential"

"I’ll sleep well, because I couldn’t have done better this year”, Joan tells As. "If others believe me, great. If some say that I put up the worst title defence in history, good for them. But you have to experience certain situations for yourself to understand them and know a little more before you make these kinds of comments. I don’t care about those people honestly”.

"It’s true that I didn’t win, but no one can say that I didn’t get 100% out of the bike. That’s clear, but it’s also true that I am very disappointed", continues #36, explaining how he was under enormous pressure after winning the title in 2020.

Looking ahead

"The pressure I put on myself all season long was enormous. But I also think that this year’s experience in the garage will make us stronger in future”, reflects Mir. “We’ve learned a lot about how tough it is to win in MotoGP".

"It’s not enough to do what you have to do, you need to do more than that to win the title. And not only the rider, but everyone on the team must do it”, concludes the Spaniard, confident that he can aim for better results in 2022.
