Yamaha has had a fairly eventful MotoGP season. And Lin Jarvis is well aware of this, having celebrated Fabio Quartararo’s title win but having also had to deal with the departure of Maverick Viñales.

And that’s not all, as the Japanese manufacturer also bid farewell to icon Valentino Rossi, a rider whose very best racing memories are linked to Yamaha.

Jarvis: “Valentino has enormous appeal”

According to the managing director, the Italian’s absence will definitely be felt, with significant consequences for MotoGP in terms of visibility.

"If you ask around as to Marquez is, many people wouldn’t have a clue. The same goes for Quartararo, no idea. But if you ask about Valentino Rossi, anyone could tell you because everyone knows him. He has enormous appeal”, comments the manager in an interview with Moto Revue, reiterating the important role the nine-time champion has played. “So that’s something that the sport will have to make up for. I’m optimistic about the future of MotoGP anyway, because the racing is really exciting right now".

"Like everyone, I feel that Rossi’s retirement is the end of the world, the end of a glorious era. Valentino is one of those unique sporting icons. But even the stars have to finish their career one day", opines Jarvis, who then turns his attention to the current world champion: “People like Fabio too, as he has a real personality. He has fun and shares this. I also appreciate the mutual respect between our riders, although that’s something we’ve had for many years already. The last time it was lacking was probably around 2010".
