MotoGP, six weeks of total rest for Marc Marquez

The doctors have been clear with the Honda rider. Here is what the Spaniard can and cannot do as he awaits his next check-up

We know very little following Marc Marquez’s training accident with the enduro bike. Both HRC and the rider himself have given little away, talking first of a minor head trauma and then of diplopia. But the real question is when will Marquez be able to get back on a bike?

A long wait ahead

The Honda rider has already missed the Jerez test and the worry is that the start of the 2022 season might also be at risk. The double vision problem is a very delicate one with an uncertain recovery time. As team manager Alberto Puig said during a recent interview, the eight-time champion needs time to rest so that the swelling around his eye can gradually go down.

Our colleagues at Speedweek also report that doctors have told the Spaniard to refrain from any kind of training or physical exertion, prescribing total rest for at least six weeks. The only activity Marquez is allowed to partake in during this period is walking.

Only a fleeting appearance at the Allianz Junior Moto Camp

Shortly before Christmas, #93 will see the doctors for another check-up and hopefully the situation will become a little clearer at that point. Will he need surgery? Or more time before he can train? Both Honda and the Spaniard will have more concrete answers as well as time to understand exactly what can be done ahead of the 2022 season start.

In the meantime, the Spaniard did make a fleeting appearance at the Allianz Junior Moto Camp, but not as an instructor this time. Taking his place on track were brother Alex and MX ruder Ruben Fernandez, but Marc made a surprise visit on day two and met with the young riders taking part in the Moto Camp, offering them some advice but nothing more.
