The world championship is working towards a gradual return to normal by carrying out some trial-run crowd tests. These ‘test’ races will include those taking place at Montmeló this weekend. As with other events taking place right now, F1 included, if the test proves positive then a limited number of 1000 spectators may be able to attend the GP at the same track.

This weekend’s pilot project

The ultimate goal is to be able to return to normality and see full grandstands once more. But this all needs to be done gradually. Hence, the idea to carry out some ‘tests’, starting on Sunday 23 May, when the riders of the Mediterranean and Catalunya championships will be out on track.

So what does the test involve? During these first two events, a total of 1000 people will be admitted to the Montmeló track and they’ll be asked to adhere to all safety measures. The spectators will be assigned seats so as to respect social distancing norms. And if this experiment works, there’s a chance a limited number of people will be able to watch the Catalunya GP taking place on 6 June.

Strict rules to follow

One interesting aspect regards the entry ticket for this event, which is free. For those who choose to take part in this experiment, they will need to follow what have become standard rules at any event, their body temperature taken on entry, their passes and ID cards checked, and the mandatory wearing of masks.
