MotoGP, Morbidelli: “I’ve adjusted my expectations for the season”

"After the first two races, I realised that I’d need to improve to stay at the front, and that’s what I’m trying to do. I don’t think the rain can help me, I’ve never been quick in the wet”

The aim? To do it again. Franco Morbidelli was back on the podium at Jerez, despite his much-discussed technical situation, and he wants to ride the wave in France. Before thinking about the future though, Franco takes one more look to the past, and that very podium.

“The Jerez podium had a special flavour - explains Morbidelli - considering what I’m going through. Once I’d passed the chequered flag, there was an explosion of emotion, it all came at once. At the end of the day, any MotoGP podium is always a wonderful thing”.

Morbidelli: “I’ve adjusted my expectations for 2021”

With Jerez done and dusted, Morbidelli analyses his current form and confesses that he should have been more realistic at the start of the season.

“I soon adjusted my expectations for the year, already after the Qatar races. I realised that I’d need to raise the bar to remain at the front, and that’s what I’m trying to do with the team. The atmosphere in my garage is calm, but we know we need to give it our all”.

Franco closes by touching on the risk of rain, always something to keep in mind at Le Mans and something he’s not particularly excited about.

“It’s too soon to say but I don’t think rain can help me, as I’ve never been very quick in the wet. I’ll try anyway, but it will be hard. I’ve only ever scored one podium in the wet in my career, and that’s it. If it rains I’ll take the opportunity to see whether what we tested at Jerez might be useful in the wet”.
