The province in which the Mandalika circuit is located believes it will host a GP round in October, despite the event not appearing on the calendar issued by Dorna
The provincial government of West Nusa Tenggara released its 2021 calendar of events on 10 December and the list includes the Indonesian Grand Prix, at the Mandalika track on the island of Lombok. According to the schedule, the world championship round would follow on from L’Etape, part of the Tour de France, which will begin in early October.
Yet the event does not feature on the latest version of the calendar released by championship organiser Dorna. During the month of October, we see the usual four Asian rounds, or rather those in Japan, Thailand, Australia and Malaysia. The Mandalika circuit only appears as a back-up track, to be used only if one of the other rounds is cancelled, and it would also need to be homologated seeing as until a short time ago it was still in the process of being constructed.
We can only wait for a response from the Spanish firm, which may either confirm or deny the news.
