MotoGP, Marc Marquez: “An unusual year. I didn’t expect Alex’s podiums”

In an interview shared yesterday, Marc and Alex Marquez talk about the 2020 season, conditioned by Covid-19 and the absence of the 2019 World Champion

Sponsor Estrella Galicia brought the Marquez brothers together for a frank interview, published on YouTube on Wednesday.

Alex Marquez begins, reflecting on a season that saw no fans in the stands: “It’s different, when you make a lap of honour you don’t have much incentive, let’s say. It was all different, but we got used to it and are grateful that we were able to complete the championship and indulge our passion", explains the Repsol Honda rider.

Marc: "My brother? A very good season"

A strange year, without Marc Marquez. "It was an unusual year all round, especially for me", says the eight-time world champion. Stuck at home with an arm injury, Marc became his brother’s biggest fan: “If I had to sum up Alex’s season? Very good, because he was able to score two podiums in his first season. It’s one thing to test and then begin, but quite another to be away from the bike for so long and then start racing, as they did this year".

"To be honest, I didn’t expect the podium", continues Marc Marquez. "I didn’t expect it, he’d sometimes say: 'I’ll get a podium this year, in the wet or something, but I’ll get a podium” but I didn’t expect it. When he did it at Le Mans it was a great result. But I think his results in the two Aragon races were even more important, and then at Portimao, finishing in the top ten".

Next year will see Alex racing with team LCR, while Marc still needs to see when he can return to the track. There is still a chance he needs a third surgery and so all we can do is wait for an update.
