The last time he had been leading the championship standings was during the 2024 Solidarity GP—the very race where he was crowned World Champion. However, after Assen, Jorge Martin has returned to the top and arrives at the Sachsenring as the championship leader, with his future already mapped out. In recent days, his move to Yamaha starting from 2027 alongside Ai Ogura was officially confirmed. Here is what he had to say on the eve of the German Grand Prix.

Martin: “Happy to Be the Leader, but the Championship is Wide Open”

For the first time since winning the title in 2024, Jorge is back at the top of the standings and will look to defend his position on the German circuit before the summer break, though his main objective lies elsewhere:

“Of course, I am happy to be the championship leader, even if it’s not crucial at this moment. The important thing is that both Aprilia and I keep working the way we have been from now until the end of the season. The championship is wide open, and Marquez is incredibly strong here; he is the one starting as the favorite, but we have what it takes to be on the podium.”

The Spaniard then naturally spoke about the future, given that from the season after next, he will be riding the factory Yamaha alongside Ai Ogura:

“I always try to make the best choice for my future. I did it when I went to Ducati, when I arrived here at Aprilia, and now the same thing happened with Yamaha. I am happy with the decision I’ve made, we’ll see what happens, but right now I must first focus on the second part of the season and fight for the world title.”
