SSP, Tuuli following the amputation: “It hurts to ride, but I’m pushing to return”

Niki Tuuli hasn’t had an easy time of it in recent months. Following an accident at the Estoril Supersport round, the Finnish rider had to undergo several operations and, most significantly, have three of his toes amputated. His rehabilitation is going well though, and the 26-year old has finally been able to ride a race bike again for the first time.

Imminent return to racing?

Tuuli (replaced at Misano and Donington by Mattia Casadei) has completed a test day at the Finnish track of Alastaro, aboard a Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR. The aim of the test was to simply understand the rider’s physical condition after such a long period away from the tracks.

“I’m really pleased to have finally spent a day back on track”, comments the factory MV rider. It seems crazy that, just two weeks since starting rehab after various operations, I’m already able to ride. It’s not easy and I’m in some pain while I ride, but I’ll continue to push to be back racing as soon as possible”.
