For many, finding a ride ahead of the new season is never easy. Following the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, several teams have found themselves without sponsors or with a very limited budget, even looking to riders who can pay to stay inside the paddock.
One of the high-level riders still without a bike for the upcoming season is Taylor Mackenzie, son of former rider Niall and older brother to Tarran. After a very complicated 2020 in British Superbike with the TAS Racing BMW, conditioned by serious injury, Taylor now seeks a ride.
An alternative way to promote himself
The 27-year old Brit has come up with a different way to attract the attention of teams and find the budget he needs to race, turning to YouTube. Taylor launched his channel during the lockdown and explains his situation in his videos.
"If you don’t make yourself heard and explain what’s going on, teams think that you’re all good for the new season and don’t consider you”, explains Mackenzie. "I had a similar situation in 2018, but it’s more difficult now, because many teams have no budget. I hope to find a ride and help the team that will give me a bike thanks to my YouTube earnings".
Mission almost accomplished
Teams have clearly been impressed by Taylor’s efforts. Having clocked up solid viewing figures on the video sharing platform and with more than 10,000 subscribers to his channel, Taylor is now in touch with various Superstock 1000 teams and we will soon find out which team will field the Scotsman during the 2021 season.
