Hacienda, the Spanish tax office, was asking Jorge Lorenzo for 35 million Euro in unpaid taxes, dating back to 2013, 2014 and 2015, but the five-time world champion won’t have to pay a cent. The Majorcan has won his legal case, having come to an agreement with the Spanish Central Administrative Court (TEAC).
All’s well that ends well
According to “El Confindencial”, the TEAC recognises that during that period, the former rider’s residence for tax purposes was in Switzerland and not in Spain. The case is therefore closed for the Majorcan, who has lived in Lugano since 2013 and has had run-ins with Hacienda in the past. Lorenzo has stated his innocence and has been proved right. Like him, other Spanish riders have also moved their fiscal residence to other countries and come up against Hacienda. Dani Pedrosa for example, he too resident in Switzerland, who will be back in action at the Red Bull Ring on 8 August.
