MotoE, Herrera also undergoes compartmental syndrome surgery

Compartmental syndrome is affecting one rider after another in the world championship. First it was Jack Miller, who was slowed down over the first two rounds because of this, and then Fabio Quartararo, who lost twelve places at Jerez due to the pain in his right forearm. And now Maria Herrera and Aleix Espargaró are also suffering.

A significant ninth place

The Spanish rider, the only female contender in MotoE, has already undergone surgery, as have the Australian and the Frenchman, and she explains how it all began:A couple of months ago, my right arm started to feel tired when training with the MX bike, but I thought it meant I should train more. Once I realised that wasn’t helping, I decided to visit the doctor who told me it was compartmental syndrome”.

And yet last Sunday Herrera nevertheless completed the first MotoE race: “I did what I could, but I’m proud I didn’t retire and scored a ninth-place finish, which means we’ll feel stronger come the next race”.

She finishes by adding: “The operation went very well and I had no pain overnight. They’ve already discharged me and I’m ready to go home”.
