Due to restrictions owing to the coronavirus pandemic, the provisional 2021 MotoGP calendar has been updated, supplementing the information we have provided in recent weeks.
A double Qatar round
The FIM and Dorna have just issued an official update regarding the 2021 schedule. Qatar will kick things off, the Losail circuit confirmed as the host of the season-opener on 28 March, but also the second round, with teams and riders remaining in Doha for round 2, set to take place over the weekend of 2-4 April.
The Argentinian and US rounds, originally planned as the second and third events on 11 and 18 April respectively, are now postponed and will run during the final quarter of 2021.
Portimao returns
But there will be a round on 18 April, the first in Europe in fact, held at the Portimao circuit. The Portuguese event, initially listed as a back-up, becomes a reality.
This is the latest news in terms of the 2021 MotoGP calendar although the FIM and organisers of the MotoGP stress that all dates remain provisional, because it all depends on an uncontrollable variable, or rather the COVID-19 pandemic, which continues to significantly restrict travel and remains impossible to predict.
